Courage
I attended a financial planning seminar today. The speaker , Thomas , quoted something that interest me. I feel it is rather related to our trading psychology too. He mentioned - “at point of time in life we may lose friends , lose money … but if we lose the courage - we lose everything.”
Trading is never easy. It has a long learning curve. At times we may feel we are drowning and what we need is a lifeline. Strangely enough , for many people , including myself , reaching out for that lifeline takes courage. ( perhaps I should say reaching out for the last straw …) When we feel we are drowning , all we can see is what we do not have. Pride and self ego always gets in the way of reaching out. Fear of admitting we need help or that we have gotten ourselves into trouble prevents many traders from seeking help before all is lost. Fear that we will be rebuffed or humiliated when we ask for help is a valid concern. Not everyone is willing to throw a lifeline. I faced the same humilation in my business failure before and this lesson taught me who are my friends and who are not …
When you have been turned down in seeking help , it is just the time when you have to be willing to push on. It takes courage , lots of courage in fact , to meet with the indifference or condemnation. It takes courage to make a commitment to your own survival. I can only say that survival is a worthy cause and that somewhere exists the individual who will believe in you , just as you believe in yourself. This is where courage begins … Courage is a muscle. If it is never used , it atrophies and can only take you so far. However if you are willing to use that muscle , even when it is painful or frightening , that muscle will grow in strength and will take you as far as you need to go. Be Courages ! Trading buddies. What you are facing might not be a failure yet , it is just ” delayed success ”
